Sarah Gonem is a Partner at Z&Co., with her core practice in commercial litigation.

Being a UK qualified solicitor, and having practiced for many years in London prior to joining Z&Co., Sarah acts as an essential conduit between the local Sharia and judicial context and international best practices in the management of complex commercial issues and disputes.

Sarah is currently ranked in her individual capacity by both the Legal500 and Chambers Global, which have reported that she is “excellent” and “has a particular talent for facilitating progress in cross-border cases”. Clients have also commented that she is “good at combining Western and Arabic legal expertise in a very effective manner”, and that she provides “very strong and detailed advice.”

Before joining the firm, Sarah worked at Squire Sanders in London.

Key recent experience includes advising:

  • The Royal Commission of Mecca City in relation to drafting land-related regulations
  • Amaala Company in relation to the regulatory structuring of the Amaala Project on the Red Sea Coast
  • The Ministry of Finance in relation to drafting Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest regulations issued under the new Government Tenders and Procurement Law (GTPL)
  • The Ministry of Finance in relation to drafting the template procurement contracts for all government entities to use pursuant to the GTPL
  • The Ministry of Transport in relation to the lease of its lands
  • The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as defendant in an international dispute filed by an investor at the Arab Investment Court
  • Grant Thornton in relation to the enforcement of a USD2bn judgment in the Maan AlSanea insolvency
  • Zain Group in relation to claims of over USD540million
  • Deloitte in relation to the first class actions filed at the Committee for Resolution of Securities Disputes

She received her LLB Degree (First Class) from the University of Southampton and completed the Legal Practice Course (with Distinction) at the College of Law, London.
